Strengthen your academic credentials to pursue medical, dental, optometry and other health professional schools. ACPHS now offers both an in-person and fully online offering of the Masters of Biomedical Sciences.
The biomedical sciences master’s degree includes a core set of graduate-level science and humanities courses to help you become a well-rounded healthcare professional. We also offer a formal MCAT preparation course to help you learn exam material and how to best prepare and take the standardized entrance exam.
Tailor a course of study to your career goals and work with a capstone advisor from across any of the ACPHS programs. Attend workshops to develop your medical school application. Meet with health professions school representatives and build your professional network in our program.
As part of the biomedical sciences master’s degree at ACPHS, you may be eligible to apply for our linkage programs with two medical schools — Albany Medical College and New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The program gives you the opportunity to:
• Access individualized advising with a dedicated academic advisor
• Strengthen your GPA and overall academic credentials
• Ready yourself for the MCAT and other entrance exams
• Explore various career paths
In addition to rigorous academic preparation, you'll also develop your application to a health professions program, practice interviewing skills, craft a personal statement, and learn about the admissions process for health professions schools through the Preparation for Health Professions sequence. We will provide a committee letter when you apply to health professions schools.
Our master’s in biomedical sciences degree brings faculty together from basic, applied and clinical departments across the College, providing a springboard into the health professions program that interests you.
You’ll complete a three-credit capstone research project with the flexibility to select a topic that interests you to prepare for the career of your choice. At ACPHS, you can also take full advantage of our proximity to major hospitals (we are directly across the street from a Level I trauma center) to gain valuable experience in the healthcare world.
The Preparation for Health Professions course sequence focuses on professional school applications and the school selection process. We also offer specially designed workshops to help you complete your professional school application, and an MCAT prep course to help you learn exam material and how to best prepare for the standardized entrance exam.
The MS in Biomedical Sciences is a 37-credit, one-year degree that offers two start dates: January and August.
The program includes both science and non-science courses with a focus on upper-level science courses and non-clinical courses. You'll also have the flexibility to choose electives that allow you to customize a program to your interests and goals.
Learn about biological molecules and their relationship to common disorders in our Applied and Clinical Biochemistry course. Explore readings from literature and current publications that deal with ethical issues in health care and medical research in Healthcare and Human Values.
